About Department of Arabic

Objectives and Missions of the Department:

Language has always been found to have played an important role in determination of not only religious and cultural aspects of human races but also in stabilizing the civilization of human being as a whole. Arab has been the land of imparting various branches of knowledge, culture and civilization to the people of Asia for millennia and a source of inspiration to the natives of India for centuries. India and Arab are found to have served as a common ground of religious as well as cultural activities and hence maintained a fairly regular interchange of cultural values which have molded their lives in social, intellectual and religious spheres.

Arabic, being one of the prominent international languages of the world, is displaying an important role in language, literature, history of Islamic religion and culture in Assam. The Muslim populace of Assam like other Muslim of different state of the world holds the Arabic language as a search language in religious as well as in social affairs in particular and the non Muslims of different areas regards it as media of treads, commerce, diplomatic relations and literary aspects in general. Muslim conquerors, Muslim traders and Sufi- saints from Arabia, Persia and Iraq played a dominant role in the cultivation of Arabic language, literature and Islamic belief in the fertile soil of Assam in medieval age. On the other hand, the Assamese language is highly influenced by the Arabic language as because a large number of Arabic words have been found in the Assamese language being used by the common people in their day to day lives.

Under the circumstances , our main object to learn the Arabic language is to bring forth the findings through scientific research activities and to exhibits its affinity with the Assamese language with a view to enhance the linguistic as well as literary values of the latter. Our efforts is to collect the information regarding the socio –religious cultural and historical aspects from Arabic works and make it available to the Muslims of Assam in particular and the common people of Assam in general . The Arabic Department of this college has been doing its best since the inception, promoting enhancement in religion, economy and culture of the local populace.


HISTORY OF ARABIC DEPARTMENT :

The Arabic department was initially started functioning as one of the subjects from the very beginning of the college on 9th Aug/71 ,with one lecturer, Md Borhan Ali for one year Pre-University course under G U . In 1971 the Arabic department obtained permission for opening degree course with Md Akkas Ali Mullah who left the college for his new assignment in Nogaon College in 1977 and the same post was filled up by Chand Mohammad Ali who had served the department from 1977 to 2004 .In 1981 another lecturer Abdul Qayyum al Aman was appointed as third man for introducing honours course with due permission from G U in 1982 . On his resignation in 1986 Md Safur Ali was appointed to the vacant post in 1987 and he had served the department till 2013. In the mean time Dr Chand Mohammad Ali had already been appointed as principal of the college with effect from 10th July 2004. Then Sajida Khatun and Shamsul Alam were appointed on 19th Aug/2000 and 12th Oct/2000 respectively. Later on two sanctioned post were occurred to vacant due to upgradation and appointment of Dr C M Ali as principal and another post was vacant due to retirement of Md Borhan Ali .After that their post were filled up by the departmental process with Sajida Khatun and Shamsul Alam with the approval of D H E, Assam .
